The story
Wyoming
The Equality State
Wyoming is a state of wide-open spaces, mountains, high plains, ranches, wildlife, energy resources, Western traditions, and some of America's most famous natural landscapes. Native peoples have deep histories throughout the region, and their cultures remain an important part of Wyoming's heritage. Explorers, fur traders, pioneers, ranchers, miners, and railroad workers later crossed and settled the territory. Wyoming became the 44th state in 1890. Cattle and sheep ranching became central to its identity, while coal, oil, natural gas, and other mineral resources played major roles in the economy. Cheyenne developed as the state capital and a major railroad community, while Casper became important to the energy industry and Jackson grew into an internationally known gateway to mountain recreation. Wyoming is home to Yellowstone, America's first national park, as well as Grand Teton National Park, Devils Tower, vast prairies, mountain ranges, hot springs, geysers, rivers, and abundant wildlife including bison, elk, moose, bears, and pronghorn. Tourism, ranching, energy, outdoor recreation, and conservation all remain closely tied to the land. Wyoming's story is the story of the American West—large landscapes, independent communities, ranching traditions, wildlife, and a sense of open space that remains increasingly rare.
Together, these 50 stories give MileAmerica something bigger than a collection of state shirts: each design can become an introduction to the place behind the name. Someone can wear a state because they were born there, live there, visited there, worked there, went to school there, drove through it, built memories there, or simply appreciate what makes it special. That fits the idea behind “Wear the Journey”—not states competing against one another, but individual places becoming chapters in one larger American story.
