The story behind the design
North Carolina
Mountains to Ocean. There's a Story in Every Mile.
North Carolina is a state made for the road.
Start in the west among the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. Follow the highways through foothills, growing cities, college towns, farmland, and small communities. Keep traveling east and eventually the landscape opens toward sounds, barrier islands, beaches, and the Atlantic Ocean.
Mountains on one end.
Ocean on the other.
And hundreds of places worth discovering between them.
Across North Carolina
Western North Carolina brings mountain towns, waterfalls, forests, trails, and unforgettable views along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Charlotte offers the energy of a major city.
Raleigh and Durham bring universities, museums, restaurants, technology, arts, and the character of the Triangle.
Greensboro and Winston-Salem add their own stories.
Wilmington takes you toward the water with its Riverwalk, historic streets, restaurants, and nearby beaches.
Then there are the places between the destinations.
Small downtowns.
Country roads.
Family businesses.
Roadside produce stands.
Local restaurants.
Places you discover simply because you decided to stop.
Barbecue and Carolina Traditions
North Carolina barbecue has become part of the state's identity.
Travel through the state and even the barbecue changes—from the vinegar-and-pepper traditions of eastern North Carolina to the Lexington-style traditions farther west.
Add coastal seafood, Southern cooking, biscuits, local produce, bakeries, international restaurants, and family-owned establishments, and food becomes another way of exploring the state.
The Carolina Coast
The Outer Banks stretch along the Atlantic with beaches, dunes, fishing communities, lighthouses, and miles of barrier islands.
Nags Head.
Kitty Hawk.
Cape Hatteras.
Ocracoke.
And farther south, destinations such as Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Carolina Beach, and Wrightsville Beach offer their own coastal experiences.
North Carolina Is Part of My Story
Maybe you came for the mountains.
Maybe you came for the beach.
Maybe Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, Asheville, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, or Wilmington became part of your life.
Maybe your favorite memory happened in a town most people have never heard of.
A place doesn't have to be famous to matter.
It only has to mean something to you.
I've been there.
I know that place.
North Carolina is part of my story.
